Since 1992

Karanga Mai Young Parent College is based in Kaiapoi, North west of Christchurch. Established in 1992 the College offers high level education for young parents wishing to complete their studies. Learners can study at their own pace on courses of their own choice that lead to NCEA Level 1, 2 or 3. Some tertiary courses are also offered.

Karanga Mai is located on the grounds of host school, Kaiapoi High School. A full range of secondary subjects is offered with assessments available that are taught in house or with additional support through the Correspondence School, Te Aho o te Kura Pounamu.

The College has a maximum roll of 30 students and offers on-site childcare in a fully licenced Early Childhood Education facility. The College has a transport service for young parent and child. There is also on on-site social worker and health nurse.

An Educational Vision

Our vision is to positively empower young parents by enabling secondary school qualifications in an inclusive and caring school environment. Students work towards NCEA levels 1, 2 & 3 and are further supported through a range of parenting, life skills and budgeting programmes. There is careers advice, driving lessons and licencing, and on-site social and health care support.
