Teen parents have a greater responsibility to continue their education than before as they now have a child who is dependent upon them to be cared and provided for.
Te Whare Whai Hua is specially set up to enable young parents to continue their studies and to gain valuable qualifications for their future.
Transport and childcare provision is available to eliminate those barriers that may stop young parents from continuing with their education.
The programme is flexible and can cater for all levels and abilities and is offered in a supportive whānau atmosphere with other young parents.
We offer an extensive range of subjects which can be accessed through both our host school and The Correspondence School.
We have strong relationships with local tertiary providers where we can access courses and programmes with the use of STAR funding.
We have a centre manager, a social worker, one full-time and three part-time teachers in the unit.
Teaching staff have strengths in PE & Health, Home Economics, Art, English and Mathematics and are fully committed to ensuring students reach their full potential as learners and young parents.
